Another product from Pro Measurement and Gary Galka, makers of the Mel Meter, REM Pod and SB*7 Spirit Box and seen on Ghost Adventures.  The TIR Crosshair can be used as an interactive and gesture interactive tool, or by using the X & Y sequential LED array warm and cool anomaly events can be detected, isolated and tracked within the environment during your investigation.  Use it to communicate asking a question and if the answer is yes to move to the right or no to move left  to light up different lights on the TIR.

The TIR-Crosshair is a dual axis Thermal IR paranormal investigation Device. It utilizes a very small 64-pixel Thermal Matrix Infrared sensor to detect thermal energy within a 60-degree field of view. The maximum detection range under ideal conditions is approximately 10’. Detection is represented using a 6 LED sequential array for each X & Y axis. Each individual LED change represents a 7.5-degree shift in thermal position, equivalent to a small human step at a 6’ distance. Under “Normal” conditions,

it is important to understand that warm objects located within a cool environment, or cool objects in a warm environment would be more easily detected than an object with a temperature at or near the environment temperature. As such, cool objects in a cool environment or warm objects in a warm environment will be more difficult to detect unless it is in close proximity to the sensor, or there is a sharp contrast in temperature variation. This will become more apparent if a target is small or far away from the sensor. Small thermal anomalies close to the sensor can appear bigger, and large thermal anomalies that are far away can appear smaller.

Since the detection conditions and results may vary from one investigation to another, it is important to get a good feel and understanding on how best to utilize the TIR-Crosshair. It can be used as an interactive and gesture interactive tool, or by using the X & Y sequential LED array warm and cool anomaly events can be detected, isolated and tracked within the environment during your investigation. While the TIR-Crosshair may utilize similar Infrared technology and principals of operation, it is not intended to take the place of a precision Thermal Infrared camera or similar instrument.

The following detail will help you to get a better understanding on what to expect when usi your new TIR-Crosshair Instrument. All examples are for general understanding and results may vary depending on the object size, temperature and distance from the Infrared sensor. All examples are based on ideal "normal" conditions.

Thermal Event Description & Expected Response/Results (X) Axis- Note that the same operating principal applies to the Vertical (Y) Axis

1. Event: A cool object or anomaly passes from left to right within the Infrared field of view.

Instrument Response: LED lights will turn Blue and come ON in sequence from left to right.

2. Event: A warm object or anomaly passes from left to right or top to bottom within the Infrared field of view.

Instrument Response: LED lights will turn Red and come ON in sequence from left to right or top to bottom

3. Event: A cool object or anomaly passes from right to left within the Infrared field of view.

Instrument Response: LED lights will turn Blue and come ON in sequence from right to left.

4. Event: A warm object or anomaly passes from right to left within the Infrared field of view.

Instrument Response: LED lights will turn Red and come ON in sequence from right to left.

5. Event: A warm object followed by a cool object/anomaly passes from left to right within the Infrared field of view.

Instrument Response: LED lights will turn Red followed by Blue and come ON in sequence from left to right. If there is a gap between them, the LED's will remain OFF between the Red & Blue space.

6. Event: A cool object followed by a warm object/anomaly passes from left to right within the Infrared field of view.

Instrument Response: LED lights will turn Blue followed by Red and come ON in sequence from left to right. If there is a gap between them, the LED's will remain OFF between the Blue & Red space.

7. Event: A cool object or anomaly passes from right to left within the Infrared field of view.

Instrument Response: LED lights will turn Blue and come ON in sequence from right to left.

8. Event: A warm object or anomaly passes from right to left within the Infrared field of view.

Instrument Response: LED lights will turn Red and come ON in sequence from right to left.

9. Event: You place the TIR-Crosshair on a table and sit in front of it within the 2-3-meter detection range.

Instrument Response: The LED's will detect the heat energy from your body and turn Red. After a few moments, the device will automatically begin to absorb and cancel your Thermal energy until all of the Red LED's turn OFF. In this configuration, the device is now calibrated and ready to detect any Cool or Cold Thermal change that may occur around your body. Refer to steps 1-8 above to understand results if an event occurs.

10. Event: You stand in front of the Infrared sensor for a few moments and then exit the field-of -view

Instrument Response: The LED’s will detect the heat energy from your body and turn Red. As you exit the field-of-view, the LED’s will turn Blue because it is now detecting the contrasting ambient air temperature. The device will then slowly regulate and all LED’s will turn OFF.

11. Event: You are performing a slow left-right horizontal sweep holding the TIR-Crosshair in a dark room. You detect a stationary heat source in front of you.

Instrument Response: Since you are sweeping and moving the instrument from left to right, the LED heat source will appear Red on the right and move left through all 8 LED array. You can then continue to make smaller horizontal & vertical sweep movements until the Red LED or LED’s are centered in the array to isolate the location of the heat source. Be sure not to leave a hot coffee or cold beverage on a table during your investigation.

It is best to experiment with the TIR-Crosshair to see how it can best be used based on your investigative style. It was designed to detect, track and enable Spirit gesture interaction using practical Thermal Infrared sensor techniques that have proven to be effective in the detection of Infrared energy. Note that if you walk around an environment that there are many influences that can affect the Infrared sensor. Windows, doors, drafts, heat ducts, radiant heat, air-conditioning, etc. So always be aware of these things and try to identify the origin of any Thermal changes that may occur.
